RTA claims now quicker and easier than ever

Ask anyone what they think making a road traffic accident (RTA) claim would involve and they would probably anticipate a long, drawn out process perhaps ending in a court battle. However, that view couldn’t be further from the truth.

One year ago, the ministry of justice unveiled plans to speed up the claims process for RTA claims worth between £1,000 and £10,000 and although it’s early days, they seem to be working. Under the move, insurers now have just 15 days to accept or deny liability for the damages caused, completed to up to 90 days in the past.

Although the new system was only introduced in April 2010, it seems to be a success and it is the individuals making RTA claims who are reaping the benefits of the streamlined system. Injury lawyers seem keen on the new approach which should speed up even the most complicated of insurance claims.

The majority of cases should be concluded in the first two stages of what is a three stage process, but even if they do progress to the final stage, which occurs if the third-party insurer and injury lawyer cannot agree on compensation, accident claims should still be quicker than they were in the past.

Under these circumstances, the claim will be settled by a “paper hearing” rather than a full court hearing and this will save a considerable amount of time.

So anyone dreading the amount of time involved in making an RTA claim has no need to worry – the new streamlined process should ensure that their case is resolved in a swift and satisfactory manner, taking the hassle out of what used to be a time-consuming process.

People who have put off making an accident claim because they thought it wasn’t worth the hassle should also seriously reconsider their position as the new system will ensure they get the compensation they deserve.
